Change your Alberta Driver's Licence Name or Address
The fee for changing your name or address is $28. You may need to have a new photo taken, but most likely you will be allowed to use the photo we have on file. You will, however, need to sign for the new driver licence.
Your current licence or ID card will be shredded in front of you and you will leave our office with a paper interim licence which does not have a photo. It will take approximately 2 weeks to receive the actual card in the mail. If you haven’t received the new card within 21 days, call (780) 427-7013 for an explanation of the delay. Then, please come back to our office within (60 days) with your temporary ID or Driver’s Licence and a piece of ID so we can order a replacement.
In Alberta, you are required to come into the registry in person for all driver’s licence services, you cannot authorize another individual to do this on your behalf. There is no “rush” service available for driver’s licences as they are printed off-site.
Address Change
When you move residences, you have up to 14 days to change your address on your driver’s licence or ID card. The fee for this is $28. If your ID or Driver’s Licence is still valid, we don’t require any additional documents. Please verify your mailing address, if the address isn’t correct, you might not receive your licence in the mail!
Name Change
If you are married and are assuming your partner’s last name, you can make the change to your driver’s licence simply by presenting your marriage certificate and your valid licence or ID card.
If you are making a change to your name for any other reason, we will need to see a Legal Name Change certificate, birth certificate, valid passport or PR Card.
Please note: you may be able to save the $28 fee if your licence will be expiring soon as we can make changes to name or address at the same time that we renew it. If you want to do this, please ask your clerk at the start of the service.
